Aiming to be the next Hottest DJ on the planet
59Who's your favorite dj? (www.djlist.com)
What's up DJ?
My radio days included playing music from cds and vinyl way back the 90s until I switched to another job. I kind of missed it being a radio disk jockey but spinning vinyl at nightclubs, it’s a different story. I am aiming to be the next hottest dj in the planet, but first, I must surpass the achievements of DJ Tiesto or DJ Armand Van Helden (two of my favorites).
Being a radio personality, I was often invited in the local clubs to do guestings as in playing vinyl records with other guest deejays from other stations. It’s complicated but the crowd can influence your playing style. You must have timing and play the hottest mix of the night for them.
Knowing the basic DJ equipment and its functions
The equipment at the studio can be complicated to beginners, but you’ll get used to it. Console, turntables, cd players and mixer (along with the woofer, sub-woofer and twitter) are the most important equipment in the studio aside from the supplementary materials like computer monitors and hard drive, vinyl records and cd albums.
The costs of these equipment are somewhat expensive to the ordinary men. It is an investment of a lifetime if you really want to complete your gadgets.
Crash course on being a disc jockey
1) Vinyl mixing. There are two turntables, right and left. The mixer is situated between the two. You can play first at the right turntable (label it as 1st turntable and the other 2nd). You cue the needle to the song to be played based from you playlist. If you play it as your initial dance beat or tune, you can now cue the next song at the left turntable. Mixer and headphone will help you best in a noisy surrounding of the club.
2) CD mixing. Set the cue point (starting point) before pressing play/pause. Then it is a matter of starting, adjusting pitch, restarting and re-adjusting pitch until you reach the right speed. When your CD 1 is almost done playing, you jump-start CD 2 for the transition. If there’s a second or two of dead air during the transition, it will ruin your gig.
3) Rapping and all. Most deejays are also doing ad lib or rap while his music is fading out. Be sure that you’re as good as your audience want you to be before segueing into a slower dance or more hip number in the evening.
4) Natural high. It’s not like you’ve been hooked on drugs. Music gives us a natural high. A deejay will always dance to what he plays with all the swaying of hips, raising of both hands and moving to the beat of the music.
Being a deejay is not only a hobby or a hip job. It’s a fulfillment of making people dance and forget their problems away just for a night or for a moment.
