The Orthopedics update

The year 2009 is a fruitful one to the medical field in the Philippines. There are many firsts that medical practitioners proudly announced to the tri-media (radio, television and print).

The Orthopedics Department of Manila Doctor’s Hospital announces its two firsts that helped a lot of patients who are suffering from low back pain and cervical spine (located at the neck).

1. Interspinous Process Decompression (IPD). The IPD is first in the Philippines last year but is being practiced in more progressive countries, like USA, Canada and UK. Spinous process concentrates on adjustment of the spine to give more spaces to the nerves that circulate the blood in the body. Those persons who are experiencing low back pain (LBP) and want to undergo such operation will just spend a maximum of twelve minutes for the minimally invasive procedure called IPD. The normal incision is about two centimeters and takes an hour to finish by using a medical bi-plane machine and X-ray. Now that IPD is being practice in the country, the patient can only have a one-centimeter incision and have a safe aperius implants between the spaces of the spines and can spend at the operating table for twelve minutes.

2. Cervical Inter facet Distraction Decompression (CIFDR).The operation called CIFDR is both first in the world and in the country, too. Dr. Jose Manuel Ignacio, MD and Dr. Rafael Cruz, MD of the Orthopedic Department of Manila Doctor’s Hospital explained that the procedure involves the placing of implants between the facet joints of the cervical spine, located at the neck to ease the pain and numbness being felt by the patient when the nerves are agitated by the pressure that can lead to heart attack due to abnormal blood circulation. A patient will undergo a general anesthesia; then with the use of C-arm, there will be an open channel that will aid in inserting the implants between the facet joints. The alternative process of surgery will take only a half hour or thirty minutes to finish.

With the help of the so-called medical tourism, it will add more income to many local hospitals who will practice such medical procedures. Patients will be ensured that they're in capable hands that can give their normal lives back.

Low back pain is frequently attacking older persons due to their tedious jobs. Good thing is that Filipino medical practitioners continue to innovate something for the people. Thanks for this hub.

This what a Hub page should be like. full of important information. The people in Philippines are well educated and most speak English. Keep this Hub going.

6inchbootmbtking, bacville and rolf thanks for the comments. Ordinary people, like me should also have knowledge in medicine. There are new things that can improve our lives with the help of science and technology.

We add another medical breakthrough in the Philippines and in the world. Dr. Arturo V. Estuita, a Filipino internist and chelationist, recently discovered in his clinical practice that infusion chelation therapy kills hepatitis B virus. I have a Hub "Now! A Medical Breakthrough in the Control of Hepatitis B."

Hepatitis is a disease of the liver caused by virus hepatitis A, B, C, and D. A person afflicted by hepatitis A can clear the virus from his body completely but not hepatitis B, C and D. So even after treatment he is at risk of developing cirrhosis and liver cancer. That infusion chelation therapy kills hepatitis B eliminates for the person so infected the risk for developing cirrhosis and liver cancer. It is probable that infusion chelation therapy also kills hepatitis C and D virus, Dr. Estuita told me in his clinic at Pasay City, Philippines on March 8, 2012. He will have the chance to find out when patients infected by such virus come to him for treatment.

@conradofontanilla: The word chelation is derived from the Greek word, chele, which means claw (like that of a scorpion or crab).

Chelation therapy is the process of removing from the body the undesirable ionic material by the infusion.

Although, the process can be either through intravenous or oral solutions, the first process is more effective and convenient to the patient.

Thanks for alerting me regarding this development. I might as well visit Dr. Estuita regarding this good news.

It may help you to search with "estuita cv chelation therapy." He is around in his clinic Sundays thru Fridays. Dr. Estuita's protocol could be developed further if some people afflicted with hepatitis B or C would volunteered for a long treatment to find out if hepatitis B or C could be eliminated by infusion chelation therapy. A statistical design like cross over or observed control can be applied instead of the double blind design that even Dr. Jonas Salk rejected as unethical in the development of the Salk killed poliovirus vaccine. That way, the volunteer is assured of protection.

We've recently studied the different kinds of hepatitis that affect Filipinos these days, through shared drinking and street food. This was the gist of the seminar I attended at the Bureau of Quarantine.

I can be one of the volunteers, if time permits. I still have to renew a set of vaccine against Hepa B as I go on board commercial ship this May 2012.

Sure you will go online aboard ship. It was on a ship the Spanish flu pandemic incubated then proceeded to kill over 25 million people all over the world. Lucky us we now have vaccines.

@conradofontanilla: That's another info, Sir. You really are a fountain of information.

Thanks for keeping me updated. :D
