Stories on Parade

Many stories have been written about life, events and even far out characters. Animals talking? Yes, it is possible in an anecdote wherein animal characters were brought to life to convey human characteristics. Children are fond of hearing stories before they sleep. I used to like it very much when I was a child. It's fun to imagine how the sun and the clouds could talk and quarrel with each other. It's like traveling in the Wonderland. It's an unforgettable stage in my life hearing such kinds of stories.

Stories on Parade

This was the title of the book that caught my attention when I learned about reading. It's the compilation of stories handed down from generation to generation through Aesop's Fables, Hans Christian Andersen, Grimms Brothers, the Great Confucius, Parables told by Jesus Christ from the Holy Bible and legends of things that exist in this world. Almost every country has it's own version of stories than fancy every child's imagination.

Moral Lesson

Every story has its moral lesson. Kids are learning from the examples each character portrayed in a particular story, whether it's fable, legend or parable. Fables are portrayed by talking animals, tress or even sun, wind and clouds. Legends are stories that explain the beginning of every living thing here on earth. Parables are stories from the Holy Bible.

1. The Monkey and the Turtle

Monkeys are mischievous animals. Turtles are slow but talented. The monkey in the story wanted his banana plant to bear fruit fast, so he got the top part of the fallen trunk of banana. The turtle, took the bottom part with roots, nurtured it and watch it bear fruit. The monkey was disappointed because his plant dried up quickly. When the fruits ripened, the monkey volunteered to get the fruit because he knew that the turtle cannot climb the banana trunk. He ate all the ripe fruits only throwing the peelings to the turtle. In return, the turtle put some thorns at the trunk of banana. So when the monkey went down the banana, he was pricked by the thorns. He threw the turtle at the nearby river, hoping that the latter will be drowning. The last laugh went to the turtle.

2. The Cow and the Carabao

They’re friends before. They shared the same grazing spots. They played and swam side by side. One afternoon, they saw a clear swamp and it enticed them to swim. They took off their cloths and began swimming oblivious of time. All of a sudden came the owner/farmer of the land. He began throwing stones to the intruders. Hurrying up, they wore the wrong clothes. They were cursed by the farmer and they can never take off the clothes they’re wearing and became their outer skin.

3. The Birth of Human Race

When God made almost everything here on Earth, He concludes that it was still lacking. So, He decided to make a man. He shaped the clay according to His likeness and put in the oven. Being tired of doing so many things for the past few days, He fell asleep. It was too late when he smelled a burnt man in the oven. Nonetheless, He still given the burnt man the breath of life and that was the ancestor of the Negro race (Africans). The second man was still pale when he took it out from the oven for fear of overcooking it again. He breathed into it , then came the first Caucasian race (Americans, Europeans). The third man was just cooked at the right time, taking it out while still golden brown. He breathed into it, and then came the ancestor of the Asian race, which the Filipinos belong.
