Movie Watch: The Bourne Legacy - Location shooting in the Philippines bared
I braved the early morning walk along Leveriza street and Taft avenue in Pasay City, Metro Manila in order to witness the first-day shooting of The Bourne Legacy here in the Philippines.
This Robert Ludlum's franchise stars Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum. But at the fourth installment, The Bourne Legacy, it will be Jeremy Renner who will take over as the new Jason Bourne.
I wonder how the character of Matt Damon (Agent Bourne) will be acted convincingly by Mr. Renner, although he's already an Oscar-nominated actor and Academy winner Rachel Weisz
The fourth installment of the Hollywood action thriller spy film “Bourne” series, “The Bourne Legacy,” will be shot in various locations in Manila, Philippines.
Locations include Marikina City Market, San Andres Market, Navotas Fishport, Ramon Magsaysay Blvd., Ayala Avenue, Nagtahan, Pasay Taft, Intramuros and Jones Bridge.
Mr. Jun Juban, the Filipino producer of the latest "Bourne" flick, informed the media that they will announce the area of shooting each day in order to alert the public regarding the re-routing of traffic.
He coordinated with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Francis Tolentino and in response, created a 120-strong Task Force Bourne in order to pacify the crowd and manage the traffic.
Shootings will be every Wednesdays and Sundays only, according to the people of the Hollywood film company, Universal Motion Pictures, that is responsible for the series.
For the fans, here's the initial schedule for the movie.
The Manila scenes for the movie will be shot from:
- Jan. 11 to 15 in San Andres,
- Jan. 18 to 19 on J. Bocobo St. corner Remedios Circle,
- Jan. 15 on Leveriza St.,
- Jan. 14 at San Andres corner Quirino and Taft Avenues,

Synopsis of The Bourne Legacy
Jason Bourne was able to get back as professor David Webb at the Georgetown University in the US.
Unfortunately, his past always haunt him as his friend CIA agent Alex Conklin and Doctor Morris Panov were found dead.
His wife, Marie and kids Jamie and Alyssa will hide again at their safehouse, as Jason will haunt the killer, Stepan Spalko in Hungary.
He will soon find out what's behind the killings of his two friends and the dark plan of distributing bacteriological weapon to world leaders.
Spalko's hired assasin, Khan (or Joshua) is the only one who tracked down his father, Jason. His hatred to his father brought turmoil and unexpected twist with the gang.
In the end, the two made peace as Khan saved his father from Spalko.
Screenplay
Although, Paul Greengrass was slated to return as director for the fourth installment, it was announced that Tony Gilroy will be writing and directing the new flick.
Matt Damon who is close to Greengrass will never be seen on this movie.
The Philippines is never mentioned in the book, but, the film adaptation included Far East as part of the conspiracy.
Or I'm glad to believe that the scale of our hospitality entice Hollywood movie producers to let their cameras roll here.
In return, the public interest will only heighten the popularity of the said movie-in-the-making.
Note: The two actors, Renner and Weisz are billeted at the posh hotel in Makati City while the crew/production team, also in two other hotels in the said city in Metro Manila.

The Bourne Legacy Movie Update #1 c/o TheRandomMindCom
I'll be linking Curt Johnson's report regarding Jeremy Renner's scenes during The Bourne Legacy shooting.
As Mr. Johnson quipped, Empire and EW have the monopoly on all the images of this film.
February 22, 2012...shooting of Bourne Legacy at the National Post Office, Intramuros, Manila, PH
On this date, I underwent a medical examination at the Bureau of Quarantine, Gate 1 of Pier 15.
I arrived at the jeepney stop near the National Post Office building 8:00 AM (on the dot). Most of the pedestrians were ushered by traffic policemen and their assistants to another direction as I rushed for a ride bound for Pier 15.
Bystanders said that there will be shooting for some scenes of Bourne Legacy until afternoon.
Around 9:00 AM as I went back to the place after my rush medical exam at the Quarantine's office, I prepared my portable digital camera in order to highlight the filming, even though at a distance. Those pedestrians who were not marked as extras will just have to watch nearby but can never enter the yellow barricade.
Well, so far so good, this hubber catches some glimpses of the on-going instructions of directors, assistants and crew.
Here's how it goes...
