Why Harry Potter Rules
71
Innocence…magic…adventures…three elements why Harry Potter books continue to amaze children, teenagers and parents as well. Personally, I grew up hearing bedtime stories of fairy tales and magic at home, but the clamor of today’s children in the series is truly amazing! Although, there are critics accusing its author of incorporating witchcraft and Satanism in the books, these setbacks never stop fans, young and old, in buying the books and watching the characters grow every year when it was immediately adapted in its top-grossing movie series.
Well, I am joining the fans of J.K. Rowling for bringing up Harry Potter and his friends into the fiction world of popular books. There she is, who was once a teacher trying to make things end meet; but, now, a world renown author and a very wealthy one.
Teachers from all over the world realized that the stories on the book series all have lessons to be learned. And although some are subtle, each is a gem to discover. Children are recognizing those subtle lessons and learning from them.
Children (and adults) have found something they love that requires no computer or website to access-only imagination and an open mind. I remember when I borrowed one of the Harry Potter books from the daughter of my boss in the maritime agency, she’s hesitant to give it to me because she reasoned out that she’ll miss it during bedtime.
Disputes about Harry Potter Books
Conservative Christian parents think that Harry Potter books “promote witchcraft and Satanism”.
Yale professor Harold Bloom predicted that Potter books will “end up in the dustbins everywhere.”
Since imagination and an open mind are needed when reading the series, what Ms. Rowling did write is all about goodness triumphing over evil. Although many of the characters are clearly either good or bad, there are also witches and wizards in the gray area in between.
Have these critics forgotten the timeless classics, like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz, all of which include magic and even witches?

Effects on Children
The account of author J.K Rowling’s long-distance friendship with Catie Hoch, the young American fan who was befriended by Rowling as the girl was dying of cancer in 2003 brought tears to my eyes. This is the real magic of Harry Potter.
From then on, I already admired Ms. Rowling not only as a writer but a caring person as well. E-mailing Catie Hoch and reading the fourth book aloud to her on the phone earned my respect for the writer.
Many teachers are delighted when students hustle into the classroom and want to share and discuss parts of a book they have read.
There is nothing more thrilling to parents than seeing their children reading Harry Potter books for hours. No watching TV, no playing video games, just reading a book. That is the gift Rowling has given parents.
Readers worldwide, young and old, will remember them as fascinating, magical stories of bravery and love. The story of Harry Potter will be yet another classic tale that will generously feed the imagination of generations to come.

Ms. Rowling on Plagiarism
Last February, this year 2010, JK Rowling just faced another lawsuit on plagiarism. Another author claimed that Ms. Rowling copied subtantial contents from the other book incorporating it to Harry Potter series.
The battle against plagiarism is a 'hot issue' here on HubPages. With millions of author gaining recognition on the internet, the copyright issue is not easy to handle. It's just like paying patent for your work in order to declare officially that it is your own.
Paying for the copyright is not as easy as you perceive it to be. So, the likes of Ms. Rowling whose always in the limelight will be bombarded by this kind of accusation.
The good thing is, she has all the logistics to battle or fight back against her accusers.
"It's absurd". That's a message Ms. Rowling left just to end the controversy, for now.
Many incidents like this will happen, as more and more famous authors will be accused of copying works or maybe incorporating ideas made by lesser authors.
JK Rowling wins copyright case - even fans like to earn revenue from the Harry Potter fame.
